What you get without paying
You can join, build a profile, upload photos for review, browse other members and receive interest, all without a card. That is enough to judge whether the site suits you and whether there are people you would want to talk to. The how it works page walks through each stage. Free members see adverts.
What a membership adds
A paid membership lets you read and reply to messages. That is the point at which conversations start, so it is the point at which you pay. A membership also unlocks read receipts, seeing who has viewed your profile, likes and full-size photos.
An optional ID verification badge is available for an extra charge. It is compulsory only for some sign-ups, such as accounts created through a VPN or flagged for a check.
Renewal: the part to read twice
Every membership, including any introductory plan, renews automatically at the end of its period until you cancel it. If you only want a short spell:
- Note the renewal date shown when you pay.
- Set a reminder for the day before.
- Log in and go to Settings > Billing to cancel before that date.
- Keep any confirmation you receive.
Cancelling stops the next payment. It doesn't delete your profile; that is a separate step, explained in cancelling or deleting your account.
Paying from outside the US
Prices have so far been shown in US dollars. If your card is in pounds, euros, rand or another currency, your bank converts the charge and may add a foreign transaction fee, so the figure on your statement can differ slightly from the checkout price. Check the amount shown at checkout and your bank's terms before you confirm.
The name on your statement
Checkout shows the billing name that will appear on your card statement, before you confirm the payment. The amount and date will appear whatever the name. Our discretion page explains what else the site shows and sends.
A charge you don't recognise
The usual reason for an unexpected charge is a renewal. Log in and check Settings > Billing first. If you still can't match the payment to an account, contact the help centre with the date and amount, and speak to your card provider if it isn't resolved. Our log in help page covers getting back into an account you have forgotten about.
