What affair dating sites cost, and how billing works

The headline price is rarely the whole story. Renewal terms, trials, extras and the name on your statement matter just as much.

In short

Most affair sites are free to join and charge to message, either through a membership that renews automatically or through credits. On Marital Affair, browsing is free, reading and replying to messages needs a paid membership, memberships renew until you cancel in Settings > Billing, and checkout shows the billing name that will appear on your card statement.

Affair sites rarely cost a lot in absolute terms. Where people get caught out is in the detail: a cheap trial that rolls into a monthly charge, a credit pack that runs out halfway through a conversation, or a statement entry they did not expect. This guide explains the common models, then sets out exactly how Marital Affair charges.

The three ways affair sites charge

Affair sites charge in one of three ways: a membership for a set period, credits spent per action, or free access for some members and paid access for others. Many mix them, selling a membership and then extras on top.

Model How it works Watch out for
Membership You pay for a period (a week, a month, several months) and message as much as you like during it Automatic renewal into a longer or dearer period
Credits You buy a pack and spend credits on actions such as sending a message or opening a photo Every reply costs something, so an active conversation gets expensive
Free for some One group of members messages free; everyone else pays If you are in the paying group, the same renewal and refund questions apply

A membership is the simplest to budget for, as long as you track the renewal date. Credits feel cheap at first; before buying any, find out exactly what each action costs and whether unused credits expire.

What Marital Affair charges

Marital Affair uses memberships. Joining, building a profile, adding photos, browsing and receiving interest are free. Reading and replying to messages needs a paid membership. These are the current options:

What it costs
Join, create a profile, browseFree
Read and reply to messagesPaid membership (weekly and monthly plans)
Optional extrasSuch as profile boosts and an ID-verified badge

The members area shows the exact price of each plan, and the billing name your card statement will show, before you pay. Memberships renew automatically until you cancel in Settings > Billing.

Prices are kept up to date in one place, on our prices page. The members area shows the exact amount and currency before you confirm, and so far prices have been shown in US dollars. If your card is in pounds, euros or another currency, your bank converts the charge and may add a foreign transaction fee, so check your bank's terms too.

Which option suits you

Choosing a plan is mostly a question of how sure you are. The price table shows the current lengths; the logic below applies whichever you pick.

  • Not sure yet? Stay free for as long as you like. Browse, finish your profile and see who is around before paying anything.
  • Want a short look? Choose the shortest option and cancel straight after paying, so it simply ends.
  • Already talking to someone? A longer period usually costs less per week, but only if you would genuinely use it; set a reminder before it renews.

What a membership unlocks

A membership is what turns browsing into conversation. Beyond reading and replying to messages, the upgrade on the network's members platform also covers features such as read receipts, seeing who has viewed you, likes and viewing photos in full. Free members see adverts.

Neither free nor paid membership comes with a promise of replies. No site can guarantee that a particular member will answer, so don't pay expecting a set number of conversations. Our guide to how affair websites work explains what you get at each stage.

Trials and automatic renewal

Every membership renews automatically at the end of its period until you cancel it. That includes any trial: a trial is a short, cheaper first period that then continues as a regular membership. The price table above shows what each option renews into.

If you only want a short look, the simplest protection is to cancel straight after paying. Cancelling stops future renewals. You cancel in Settings > Billing inside your account, and our guide to cancelling or deleting your account shows each step.

A short checklist before you pay:

  1. Note the date the membership will renew, and what it renews into.
  2. Decide now whether you want it to renew.
  3. If not, cancel in Settings > Billing as soon as the payment goes through.
  4. Check your next statement to confirm no further charge appears.

Extras you don't need

Marital Affair, like most sites, offers optional paid extras, such as profile boosts, priority messages, a short-term pass, a way to see who has liked you, and an ID verification badge. None is required to message once you have a membership.

The ID badge is the one with a clear practical value, because it shows another member that you have passed an ID and selfie check with LEM Verify. A sensible rule for the rest: decide what you are willing to spend before you join, and don't buy extras in the middle of a conversation because you feel rushed.

What appears on your statement

Checkout shows the billing name that will appear on your card statement, before you confirm the payment. Check it there.

Be clear-eyed about what any billing name means. It is not invisible: the charge, the amount and the date are all there, and banking apps often show merchant details too. Our page on billing, email and discretion explains what the site shows and sends. We don't give advice on hiding payments from anyone, and you shouldn't trust a site that does.

Refunds and disputed charges

Refunds are limited and are governed by the member terms, so read the refund section before you buy. If you are charged after forgetting to cancel, contact the members help centre promptly, with the date and amount.

If you see a charge you don't recognise at all, check every email address you might have used for a sign-up confirmation, then contact the help centre. If it still can't be explained, contact your card provider. In the UK, if a bank or card provider doesn't resolve a complaint, the Financial Ombudsman Service is the free, independent body that handles disputes with financial businesses.

Questions to ask any affair site before you pay

These seven questions sort the straightforward sites from the rest. For Marital Affair, the answers are on this page and in is Marital Affair legit?

  1. What exactly is free, and what is paid?
  2. Does the membership renew automatically, and into what?
  3. What name will appear on my statement?
  4. Who runs the site, and under which country's law?
  5. Can I cancel online, without phoning or emailing?
  6. Are profiles shared with other sites?
  7. What is actually checked: photos, identities, nothing?

The cost no price table shows

The only money you should ever spend on an affair site is the site's own charge. Anyone you meet who asks for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency or help with a bill is very likely running a scam; Report Fraud lists requests for money as a central warning sign of romance fraud. Anyone who demands payment to keep quiet is attempting blackmail.

Never pay, keep the evidence and report it: in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to Report Fraud, in the US to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Our guide to scams and blackmail has the reporting routes for other countries.

Questions people ask

Do I have to pay to use Marital Affair?

Not to join, build a profile, browse or receive interest. You need a paid membership to read and reply to messages. That lets you judge whether there is anyone you would want to talk to before you spend anything, and the members area shows the price of each option before you pay.

Will my membership renew automatically?

Yes. Every membership, including any low-cost trial, renews at the end of its period until you cancel it in Settings > Billing. Cancelling stops future renewals. If you only want one period, the simplest protection is to cancel straight after paying, then check the confirmation on screen.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are limited and are set by the member terms in the members area, so read the refund section before you buy rather than after. If you were charged after meaning to cancel, contact the members help centre as soon as you notice, with the date and amount of the charge.

What will my bank statement show?

The billing name shown at checkout, so check it there before you confirm. Whatever the name, it is a visible charge with an amount and a date, and banking apps often add merchant details. We don't give advice on hiding payments from anyone.

Are credit-based sites cheaper than memberships?

Sometimes for light use, rarely for an active conversation. On a credit system every message or photo can cost something, so the bill grows with each reply. A membership is easier to budget for, provided you track the renewal date and cancel when you are done.
